Mental Health Month At Pivot Training
October is Mental Health Month, a time to pause and reflect on our own wellbeing and that of others.
Last week, Pivot Training Kilkenny had the privilege of hosting a special presentation from Sonder, an organisation dedicated to supporting individuals to improve their wellbeing and live a better life.
Present at the session were Pivot Training staff — Vy, Sam, and trainers Chris and Minh — alongside guest speakers Chidera (Community Engagement Officer) and Zoe (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peer Practitioner) from Sonder.
The session focused on a wide range of important topics, including:
• An overview of the Medicare Mental Health Centre (MMHC) – Adelaide North and the services available.
• Sonder’s classroom activity on alcohol and other drugs (AOD).
• Partnerships with Headspace and Safe Haven, a drop-in community hub at Salisbury open in the evenings for anyone needing support.
• The impacts of mental health, the importance of self-care, and how to access Sonder’s support services.
• Early help seeking, what to expect with Sonder, thriving at school and work, and becoming a mental health advocate in the community.
The session was highly interactive, with engaging group discussions and plenty of questions from students. The presenters created a safe and open environment for learning and reflection, leaving students feeling more informed about their support options and reassured that help is always available.
