Congratulations Tallun! 🎉
We’re excited to announce that Stepping Out Participant, Tallun, has been appointed as a member of the Youth House of Assembly, a role in which they’ll represent the youth of South Australia and serve as Shadow Minister for Indigenous Affairs and Reconciliation.
Tallun joined the Stepping Out program with the clear goal of becoming a politician and being a voice for his local community. With that passion in mind, the BlueSky Mind Studio team got to work, supporting him through confidence-building activities and help with online applications.
To move towards his goals, the team notified Tallun of an upcoming YMCA Youth Parliament camp in Adelaide. The BlueSky Mind Studio team was able to assist Tallun with writing an application to attend, as well as reaching out to community stakeholders to seek sponsorship.
Tallun was successfully accepted to attend the camp, where over four days he connected with like-minded young people who shared his passion for local government. Together, they took part in a range of activities including public speaking, bill writing, debating and visits to Parliament House.
At the camp, Tallun presented a bill advocating for First Nations history and culture to be included in the SACE curriculum in South Australian schools. The bill passed successfully and, excitingly, will now become part of South Australian law!
When appointing Tallun, the 30th Youth Governor of South Australia shared:
“You have greatly impressed me with your passion, drive and desire to shape your community”
Congratulations, Tallun! Wishing you all the best in your new roles, we’re excited to see the positive impact you’ll make!
